Mark

Support Work Client

Mark is a kind and wonderful 47-year-old man who lives in Kurri Kurri with his mother, Anne. Mark, who has been living with diagnoses of Intellectual Disability and Mood Affective Disorder, has been part of the Sunflower community for over two years – and what an incredible journey it’s been!

Our support workers in Newcastle have worked closely with Mark, helping him regulate his emotions and navigate significant life changes, such as the loss of his father and his beloved dog, Candy. Through our dedicated disability support work, Mark has shown amazing resilience and has built strong bonds with his team.

Mark often says he has the strongest team in all of Sunflower, and his journey is a true reflection of how impactful support work in Newcastle can be. Seeing Mark shine and thrive with the support of his team is why we do what we do.

Cynthia, 41, is a kind and resilient woman who faces daily challenges due to her mental health and past trauma. Despite this, she maintains a friendly and down-to-earth attitude with a heart of gold.

Living with Borderline Personality Disorder, Depression, Anxiety, Complex PTSD, Endometriosis, and Fibromyalgia, Cynthia has been part of the Sunflower Community since July 2023. During this time, she has made incredible progress through disability support work, opening up to support workers in Newcastle, achieving personal goals, and building confidence in expressing her feelings.

With the help of her regular support workers, Cynthia has enjoyed activities like swimming at the beach, day trips to Oak Vale Farm, walking her dog Storm, attending movies, art and yoga classes, and engaging in community events.

Supported five times a week, Cynthia continues to thrive through support work in Newcastle, focusing on community access, social activities, and building daily living skills.

We’re proud to see her progress and can’t wait to watch her achieve even more!
