Supported Independent Living, often referred to as SIL, is an NDIS-funded support that helps participants live as independently as possible while receiving daily assistance in a shared or individual home. SIL funding typically covers support with personal care, household tasks, meal preparation, skill development, and supervision, depending on a participant’s needs.
NDIS Supported Independent Living is generally suitable for participants who require regular daily support or 24/7 assistance in a structured home environment. Eligibility for SIL funding is determined by the NDIS and is based on functional capacity, support needs, and long-term living goals outlined in a participant’s plan. A Support Coordinator can help you determine whether SIL is the right option and assist with the assessment process.
SIL homes can include shared living arrangements or individualised setups, depending on funding and support requirements. Properties are designed to provide safe, compliant, and supportive environments that promote independence while ensuring appropriate staffing ratios and structured care models.
Participant matching in Supported Independent Living considers support needs, routines, personalities, and lifestyle preferences. A structured matching process helps create stable, sustainable living arrangements that reduce disruption and encourage positive long-term outcomes.
SIL support services typically include assistance with personal care, medication management, meal preparation, household tasks, community access, and daily living skill development. Depending on the level of funding, supports may be delivered during the day, overnight, or on a 24/7 basis.
